Compression pressure control allows you to assess the condition of rings, pistons, cylinder smoothness, valve clamps and other essential components of your car’s engine. Without dismantling it, you can assess its technical condition. The compression pressure measurement makes it possible to assess the condition of the gasket under the head and allows you to confirm or exclude its damage. You can do such a measurement yourself in the garage or in the yard.
Step-by-step compression pressure measurement
1. Buy a special instrument to perform the measurement. The most convenient will be a universal electronic compression pressure sampler.
2. Prepare the vehicle. Check that the starter is working and the battery is charged. Heat up the drive unit – until the radiator fan turns on. The engine should reach a temperature of about 70 oC. If you have a catalytic converter in your car, you need to disconnect the fuel pump power supply or the injector connector. Later, you still need to unscrew all the spark plugs (spark engine) or incandescent (Diesel). To remove residual fuels from the cylinders, the piston-crank system should be set in motion for a while by turning the starter.
3. Put the tip of the device on the hole after the candle or screw into the hole after the candle. We have to do it quickly so that the engine does not cool down. We press the gas pedal to open the throttle and turn the key in the ignition. We measure and turn off the ignition. In this way, we measure the compression pressure on all cylinders.
4. We can check the results with those declared by the manufacturer. If you do not have such information, you can calculate using the formula: compression ratio x coefficient k = compression pressure [MPa]
The k-factor depends on the type of engine and takes the following values:
k = 0,12…0,13 for a spark-ignition four-stroke engine
k = 0,17 to 0,20 for compression-ignition four-stroke engine
k = 0,095…0,10 for a positive-ignition two-stroke engine
Interpretation of results: The results of measurements from individual cylinders should not differ by more than 10% from the highest reading. If this has happened, there is a possibility that the engine components are worn out and you should go to the diagnostic station.
Oil test – when we are looking for a type of fault
To find out which part is the source of the engine problems, it is enough to carry out a simple test using oil. Into the cylinders where you noticed deviations from the norm, we pour about 5 ml of oil each. You can use a syringe for this, it will facilitate your work. Again, we measure the compression pressure.
Once we have made all the measurements and we know what is happening with our car, we can solve the problem. To avoid defects in the future, it is worth investing in engine oil additives. They are relatively cheap and allow you to keep the engine in good condition for many years. It is enough to add such a preparation to the oil.
Support the operation
With a view to the maintenance and regeneration of engines, a series of oil additives was created. These products are designed to reduce oil and fuel consumption, but also to silence its work and improve the dynamics of the car. They also protect the engine from wear, which allows you to minimize possible repair costs. In addition, in winter they facilitate start-up and reduce the amount of exhaust gases emitted. They take care of the piston rings and protect the environment. They increase the durability of metal friction surfaces by up to 5 times. Ceramizer engine oil additives can be applied in such vehicles as: cars, motorcycles, trucks, scooters, tractors, as well as lawn mowers. The technique used in the preparations, based on the phenomenon of ceramization, regenerates the engine. Drivers notice the effects after 200 kilometers. All opinions and independent tests can be found on the ceramizer.pl website and on the YouTube platform. The cost of such a product is about PLN 73. The cost of repairing an engine is much greater than buying a product.
Engine oil additives, is it worth it?
If you don’t want to spend money on expensive repairs, yes.
If you deserve a long engine life, yes.
If you want to regenerate the engine, do not hesitate any longer.
